Let us define fiction theme element as the “why” of your novel.  Why are you telling this story?  Theme is a concept that structures your story.  There are three areas that will lend further definition to your theme:  a personal dilemma, an event you witnessed, and your frustration with the way of things.  There are other ways to further define fiction theme element, but either one of the three sources mentioned here are a good starting point.

Personal Dilemma. Personal predicaments define fiction theme element through your own crisis.  In this case, you will subtly weave your message through the story based on your perspective.  Let your characters’ actions, dialogue, thoughts, and ways of life weave your theme for you.

Event You Witnessed. Events you saw, heard, or otherwise experienced define fiction theme element through that experience.  Again, your message will come naturally from the actions, dialogue, thoughts, and ways of life of the characters you create for your story.

Frustration with Social Situation. Your personal frustrations at a social injustice (or other situation) define fiction theme element through your reaction, opinion, and proposed solution to the problem.  Do any of your characters represent the solution?

It is not difficult to define fiction theme element – it is difficult to convey it properly.  However, as you carefully develop a theme within your story, your literary agent will understand why you wrote the story in the first place.  More importantly, when you dig deep and further define fiction theme element prior to writing, your readers will appreciate uncovering the point of your story.

After you’ve written your work, getting published is no doubt a elaborate task. Here are some constructive instructions that will help you write an award winning science fiction novel and publish it profitably.

Step 1: First Draft and Structure

A science fiction book should be structured in three portions: the opening, the middle, and the climax. Once you establish your story plot, you need to reinforce it with any required research. Afterward, you just have to outline your ideas on paper. High doses of imagination are the chief imperative for a triumphant science fiction novel.

Try to uplift your readers from the colorless blandness of ordinary routine life with your novel. Try to conserve suspense in each segment of the novel to make the story line consuming. Let the reader indulge in speculation over imponderable gripping situations. Sketch each segment of the story markedly.

Recognize with your work that good science fiction has believable elements. Science fiction takes current technology and builds upon it. If your ideas are too implausible or past average comprehension, your novel will not strike a chord with readers.

Step 2: Evaluation by Peers

Your initial draft needs to be criticized by several of your colleagues. They will assist not just as proof readers, but will aid you in identifying partial story lines, areas that are not believable, plots that aren’t believable, and characters that are too heroic. Science fiction is based on the suspension of disbelief, but disbelief can only be extended so far.

Online discussion groups like Critters.org provide helpful advice and appraisal. You can also attend your local library assessment workshop. Workshops permit you to get your book manuscript read by multiple people resulting in more extensive feedback. By permitting you the opportunity to review the stories of another, workshops aid you in honing your writing mettle.

Step 3: The Final Draft

After assessment by your peers, you need to edit your manuscript in order to tie up loose ends and remove the inconsistencies pointed out by your evaluators. Clear away the indistinct minutia and construct a final version that provides a firm narrative. If you are faced with a creativity block, it would be prudent to stash the novel on a shelf for a few days and engage yourself with something else. Once you are revitalized you can finish your novel with restored zeal. If major changes have been made to the novel, it should be reevaluated by your peers.

Step 4: Getting Published

There are a lot ways to locate a publisher for your novel. The first is to read science fiction trade publications. Publishers who openly accept submissions routinely advertise in these publications. A second possibility is to inquire with publishers directly. Look at a few of your cherished science fiction books and contact the editorial department. Request a copy of their submission guidelines and standards. It is most of the time best to do this by mail and include a self-addressed stamped envelope. In some instances, a publisher may have this information on their website.

When picking a publisher make sure they are writer friendly. They should have a track record of publicizing the writers and stories they publish.

Step 5: Critical Review

Get your novel critically reviewed before it is published. Give early review copies to authoritative critics. Then, right ahead of final publication, insert their reviews on the inside or back cover of your novel.

Giving the book to a critic who will pile profuse praise on it even if it is balderdash is not going to aid you in any way. You must have the book reviewed by an expert critic. A fair draft critique can save you from much future abasement. In addition, by getting your novel critiqued by a real critic, you’ll secure some promotion from the organization the critic represents.

Conclusion

These easy but effectual guidelines will go a long way in helping you write and sell your science fiction novel. It is a long process and should not be hurried. In some cases writing, rewriting, and publishing a work can take numerous years. It depends on a good deal of persistence and determination. If you possess these qualities and a good deal of imagination you can travel a long way in the science fiction universe.

Song writing tips – How To Write Great Songs Every Time!

Song writing tips are available all over the web, but much of this information can you really use? When I started out I scoured the net for advice on songwriting. I read everything I possibly could but noticed that all I seemed to find were articles on music theory, or advice telling me to “draw on my own experiences” or “write from your soul” without actually telling me HOW. No song writers sit down to write and think “Ok, I’m just going to write from the heart and everything will be fine.” They all have a set of techniques they use to tap into their creative energy so they can consistently write great songs!
Here are some ideas you can use instantly to help you come up with great songs every single time!TWO: Next we’re going to make some music. Grab your guitar or piano and make as many ideas as you possibly can. We’re talking a collection of riffs, chord sequences and melodies.Make sure you come up with as many ideas as possible. Don’t worry about sorting the good from that bad at this point, it’s all about getting the ideas out of your head. Make sure you record them all as well do you don’t forget them later! Please, please make sure you don’t edit your ideas or judge them at this point. This is all about making sure you get ALL of your ideas out of your head and onto tape, sorting the good from the bad comes later!

It’s really important to take a break after you’ve made all your ideas before you try and complete the song. It helps your mind sort through all of your ideas. It’s crazy, song ideas can leap into your head weeks or even months after you initially came up with the idea. It happens all the time.Once I go back to my backlog of ideas, I’ll go over my lyric sheets, underline any of my favorite phrases and then sing them randomly over my musical ideas. If nothing good comes out, I’ll try another idea, then another, then another until eventually something sticks, and it ALWAYS does, just make sure you stick at it for long enough and your next hit record will come flying out of nowhere.

The first time most of us come into contact with eyeglasses is either because we started getting headaches at college and went to see an optician; or simply because we wanted to look cool on vacation, and bought our first pair of decent sunglasses. If you have great eyesight, and do not need corrective lenses, then you may already be aware that your sunglasses fit into the category called non prescription glasses.

However, when searching online or in the stores for non prescription glasses, you need to realise that there are two, almost opposing, definitions. They are explained in the remainder of this article.

Non Prescription Fashion Glasses

These glasses – and sunglasses are an example – are worn purely for fashion, or have a purpose other than to correct vision defects. For example, to protect our eyes from bright sunlight and ultraviolet rays. Sunglasses have always had a part to play in fashion, and been worn by people who want to look cool. However, a new trend has emerged over the last few years, started by “ordinary folk” and rapidly embraced by celebrities including Cate Blanchett and Helena Christensen – the style of geek chic.

The new geek chic style has seen the re-emergence of big chunky glasses rather than discreet thin-framed or rimless ones – think Buddy Holly and you’ll be in the right ballpark. The lenses themselves are completely fake, just plastic with no corrective properties.

Despite the misgivings of “real” eyeglasses wearers, who years ago were probably teased mercilessly because of their specs, the fashion for non prescription, non correcting glasses has grown quickly. Some stores have even reported teenagers spending a lot of cash on glasses, only to pop out the lenses as they leave the store!

The reasons for wearing such fake glasses include, of course, people wanting to follow the latest trend; but there are also people wearing them because they look more intelligent, or because they allow the individual to project an alternative persona.

Cheap Non Prescription Glasses

There is a second meaning of the phrase “non prescription glasses” however. In this alternative case, they do have correcting lenses just like a standard prescription pair you might buy from your optician. These glasses are available from all sorts of outlets such as pharmacists, and are sometimes called over-the-counter (or OTC) glasses. They are usually for people over the age of forty, who suffer from presbyopia – the normal deterioration in eyesight due to aging.

Instead of having a series of eye tests, conducted by an optician or optometrist, the customer simply tries on glasses and reads a section of text to see if there is any improvement. When they find the correct strength glasses, they can then select from a range of different frame styles in-store.

This method is not used for myopia – or short sightedness – in younger people, where an appointment with a specialist is always advised. Trained optometrists can spot problems with general eye health, and it is common for them to spot underlying serious health problems unrelated to the eyes, such as diabetes, and in extreme cases brain tumors and other potentially fatal conditions. So for anything other than age-related poor eyesight, it is usually best to go and see your local optician. If you already wear prescription glasses, you should be getting your eyes re-tested every two years.

Finally, if you are searching for non prescription glasses, either to make a fashion statement or to correct your poor vision in old age, make certain that you have used the correct definition of the phrase or you might end up sorely disappointed.

Jack Moorehouse writes about all subjects include related to eyes and vision, such as non prescription glasses for correcting vision in the elderly, as well as modern trends in fashion glasses and information about free eye exam coupons

Before the world was treated to the many flavors presented by motion pictures, people had other brilliant ideas to entertain themselves. They exercised their imaginations through reading all sorts of books and related forms of written literature.

Detective fiction was one genre which had a strong following ever since its informal debut many years ago. Children and adults alike would stay up all night reading, captivated by the thrill and suspense associated with detective books. The excitement usually clings to a reader even if he or she isnt actually reading the story; oftentimes people would not hesitate to pick up a detective book and finish it just to know how the story ends.

What gives detective books its flair? Simply put, they give the readers a good mental image of the actual scene and its events, while having them think at the same time. The unpredictability of good detective fiction has always been a quality that readers keep coming back for.

Stories which are classified as detective fiction usually start off with a description of a particular crime or mystery. As the reader turns the pages of the detective book he or she will be led to many bizarre or uncommon circumstances. This places more emphasis on the need to find a solution or and explanation to why the introduced event happened. The protagonist is usually a detective whose degree of experience can vary. A foil, or an accident-prone/less competent male or female is usually introduced as the detectives assistant. Together, these key characters would decipher all sorts of clues, analyze situations, and piece them all together.

This process of collecting data takes up most of the plot. It is up to the creativity of the author to keep the reader hooked to the logical path of clues. A twist is usually added here and there to serve as distractions in a good number of ways. They can divert the readers attention away from critical details. Better yet, they can lead the reader to think that they have it all figured out, until another logical twist is introduced, much to their surprise. Through it all, the detective feels all sorts of emotions and tries all sorts of methods to figure things out. Deductive reasoning is one very common method used by protagonists in many detective books.

The solution of the crime usually serves as the ultimate climax of the detective fiction stories. Here, the foils more conventional level of intelligence is used by the author to explain the elaborate solution to the crime in words the reader would understand easier. The whole experience of reading a detective fiction story is truly breathtaking.

Edgar Allan Poe is credited to author the very first detective fiction story in 1841. Entitled The Murders in the Rue Morgue, it starred C. Auguste Dupin, the very first detective. The fame of this short story eventually led to two sequels which featured the same detective. One of these stories, The Mystery or Marie Roget, is intriguing for expressing Poes fictionalized point of view regarding a real-life crime, the murder of Mary Cecilia Rogers.

More importantly, that detective fiction story served as inspiration for many authors to create and innovate in the genre. One of these authors could have been a certain Scottish doctor and writer, whose innovative skills with the pen have earned him knighthood in the United Kingdom. In other words, one of these authors could have been Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, revolutionary author of the Sherlock Holmes stories.

Ask a person you know to tell you the first word he thinks about when you say Sherlock Holmes, and expect him to say detective, or something close to that. Sherlock Holmes stands out among the many various protagonists in the genre as being the most famous detective. His antics in every story that Conan Doyle wrote about him demonstrate his sheer brilliance in data gathering and analysis. This character, often pictured as a sophisticated gentleman wearing a deerstalker cap while smoking a pipe, is also depicted as a master of disguise. The depth of his character is seen in his well-elaborated emotions throughout every detective fiction story he is featured in. To him, life needed stronger thrills, and this led to his resistance to feel love, which he believed was a hindrance beneath his concerns.

Sherlock Holmes is known for the line, Elementary, my dear Watson. Many will be surprised to learn that this line was never directly uttered by Holmes. However, he does refer to less-insightful attempts in information analysis as Elementary, and he frequently refers to his confidante, Dr. John H. Watson, as my dear Watson.

John Hamish Watson was a doctor who served as Sherlock Holmes biographer in a majority of stories. He narrated all but 4 of Conan Doyles pieces of detective fiction related to Sherlock Holmes. Dr. Watson serves as Holmes foil in the sense that he has a more conventional point of view over things. He shares the sentiments and opinions of an ordinary man. This state of mind usually clashes with Holmes more logical and analytical way of thinking. One educates, while the other maintains balance. This relation between the two diverse minds has been a symbolic situation expressed in many of Holmes stories.

Together, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson take on all sorts of crimes and mysteries to solve, meeting and dealing with many diverse characters along the way. Holmes is shown to demonstrate his superior skills in investigation over local officers of the law, including those working for Scotland Yard. Holmes also had an arch-enemy, Professor James Moriarty, who was featured in a good number of Conan Doyles works. Finally, there is Irene Adler, the one woman whom Holmes showed the most appreciation and attraction for.

There are nearly sixty pieces of literary work written by Conan Doyle which featured Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. Of all these stories, it is The Adventure of the Speckled Band and the The Red-Headed League that are arguably the favorites of many Sherlock Enthusiasts.

The stories of Sherlock Holmes have undoubtedly lured many to the sophisticated genre of detective fiction. There are many competent writers who followed the approaches of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, with their own unique qualities related to the suspense and thrill brought on by detective fiction. Nowadays, early detective books are still good reading, but they are also collectors items too. Their significance during an earlier era and the quality of the stories make them highly prized by enthusiasts.

It is quite Elementary to expect that stories of Sherlock Holmes and other detective books would continue to be loved by children and adults alike.

Article writing tips are something that should be shared between and amongst all those who labor over producing quality content for whatever reasons. Be it for blog post or article marketing, routinely developing writing ideas that are popular with our readers can be difficult.

The ability to find topics to fuel your creative writing is more a learned skill then it is a talent. Learning to write articles your readers will enjoy and on a continual basis is a key to your success as an author. Developing an efficient writing process that will regularly produce positive results serves only to save you time and keep you motivated.

Today we’re going to address 5 simple tactics that we can use to find popular topics upon which to base our article writing.

Blog Comments

If you’ve got a blog look the comments left and take some direction from them. Usually readers will indicate if a post was of interest to them and why. The more comments you get on a particular post the more popular the topic is to readers.

Branch out from popular post with sub-topics and write about them

No Blog No Problem

If you don’t have your own blog visit sites within your niche and review the comments left there for ideas. Remember you’re looking at comments left by ‘real’ people and their indications as to what is of interest to them is a gold mine of ideas for your article writing.

Twitter

This fast growing social network site is a great source of popular and up to date topics. Just log in and look on the right hand side of the screen for trending topics. This is where members are having smaller discussions on issues and/or events that are of interest to them.

Twitter is an invaluable real time search engine and can be used for many different research projects.

Search a Topic Using Google Suggest Tool

When you’re typing a particular topic into the menu bar while doing a search on Google a pull down menu will appear suggesting other popular searches. By taking each suggestion and retyping them into the search bar you’ll come up with a whole new list of ‘popular’ suggestions to research or write about.

Keyword Research

Take keywords relative to your area of interest and search for other keywords you can use. Similar to using the Google Keyword Suggestion tool we spoke of above here you’ll re-enter popular keywords you found to develop a whole new list of words or phrases. Fresh ideas for hot topics to write about.

Simply target the most searched upon words since this indicates their popularity. In a nutshell you’re just learning to write articles based upon the popularity of the topic itself and not by choosing your topics on a whim.

Anybody that composes content on a regular basis always appreciates any article writing tips that will make things easier. Maintaining a steady supply of writing ideas whose topics are popular with the readers certainly helps streamline the entire writing process itself. By utilizing any or all of the above discussed techniques you should be easily able to stimulate your creative writing juices. Keeping readers informed on subjects they have an interest in will serve to make your article marketing and blog posting efforts easier and more productive.

When asked for article writing tips, you will surely get a variety of answers. One tip is not more important than the other.

In no particular order, here are my 10 tips that will help you with your writing so you can create the best article each and every time.

1. Gather ideas for your topics. Doing a brain dump is good. Just write ideas as they come to mind. You can sort it out by putting them into categories and subcategories; deleting duplicates and so on.

If sitting in your home office is stunting your creative juices, move to another location. Going for a walk outside clears a clogged mind, but at the same time old stuff is filtered out and new ideas are filtered in. Don’t forget to bring something to help you remember your new ideas.

2. Working with an outline will help you stay focused and on the topic. You want to write with clarity and with substance. Don’t get too wordy. Get to the point.

3. Research your topic if necessary. Providing misinformation is poor, unprofessional and you lose believability and credibility.

4. Write with a solution in mind. The reason you write is to inform and to help answer your target audience’s questions.

5. Connect with your audience. People want to hear your voice. Don’t be someone you’re not. You get more respect if you are yourself and you are genuine. One of my favourite quotes comes from John Mason “You were born an original. Don’t die a copy.”

6. Have a beginning, middle and end. Grab your readers’ attention with a mind blowing intro. Okay not mind blowing, but something that will entice them to read and not skim through.

The body is where all the juicy information is and the conclusion nicely sums up the message of the article.

7. Proofread, proofread, proofread. And then proofread again out loud. Get another pair of eyes and have them read through your article with a fine tooth comb. Microsoft Word spell checker doesn’t detect correctly spelled words used incorrectly in a sentence. Read your apostrophes fully to see if it’s (it is) right.

8. Don’t be a perfectionist. It’s okay to fine tune just don’t over tweak, over think and over analyze. The more you edit, the more you lose the core of the article.

9. Write regularly, but not forced or rushed. The latter produces substandard articles.

10. Always have a thesaurus and dictionary close by and use it.

Each time you pick up a pen or start typing in Word, follow these article writing tips to ensure you always create the best quality writing masterpieces.
