Do you want to write a fantastically successful non-fiction book?
Do you feel you know how to write a successful non-fiction book?

Many people who feel passionate about a certain topic cannot wait to put words on paper so that they can tell the world about it.  They may want to help people improve their health, their lifestyle, their business, hobby or be of help in some other way.  In many cases the idea is, that, by writing their book and using their experiences, or knowledge, they will be able to help others in similar circumstances.

But, one of the most important points when writing a book is to make sure that there is someone wanting to buy it.  There is no point in just writing a book because you want to.  You need to know that there is a client base out there who are already paying money for the type of information you are going to offer.

There are three very important points to remember when creating a product for the market place.

1.  It is essential to create your product for someone who wants to buy it.

Wanting to buy and, needing to buy, are not the same things.  It is very important to understand the difference.  A person may want to buy a product for many varied reasons, whereas a person may need to buy the same product, but they may have no desire to do so.

Your best customer will have a problem of some sort, and they are buying your product because they want to solve their problem. That is the simple essence of learning how to write non-fiction that will be successful on the shelf.  Knowing who your buyer will be and being able to provide a product that they want.

2.  Think like the buyer.

When you are thinking about how to write a non-fiction you need to put yourself in the shoes of the buyer and ask yourself the question, “what would make me pay money to buy the product?”

Once you have established that there are buyers out there for your topic, you need to establish how you are going to put the information in a product that they will buy.

For example, are they looking for a ‘how to’ book, ‘where to’ book or a ‘why to’ book.  If, say, you were going to write on fishing, are you going write on ‘how to set up your fishing gear’, ‘where to go and at what time of year, to get a good catch of fish’, or is it going to be a book on ‘the good times’ that you have had.  Which do you think would have more ‘buying appeal’, and have you researched this to confirm your thoughts.  These are the types of questions you need to ask yourself when you are considering how to write a non-fiction book.

In your learning curve of finding out how to write a non-fiction book, you will find that you need to break the project down to smaller pieces and keep a focus on the topic.

The title of the book must match up with the final body of the book.  It is often suggested to write approximately 50 titles before you make a final decision.  Your title should exactly tell what the book is about.  Using subtitles is a good way to show the buyer what the benefits will be from purchasing the book.

Whenever an aspiring writer speaks to me about fiction writing tips, one of the most frequently asked questions is: how do you find the time to write?

The answer I want to give, “just do it,” doesn’t quite suffice. So in this article, we’ll examine the matter in a little more detail.

We live in a busy world, with numerous demands on our time: jobs, spouses, children, draining work commutes, TV shows we want to watch, emails to read and respond to, phone calls to family and friends. When you look at your daily schedule, it may appear that you simply don’t have time to write.

Well, I’ve got both good and bad news for you.

The good news: even with a tight schedule, you can still get work done. The bad news? Something in your lifestyle will have to suffer, or change, to accommodate your fiction writing.

There are no short cuts, no easy answers. You’ve got to get creative–and motivated.

For example, do you get a lunch break at your job? Start taking a notepad with you and using that time–even if it’s only thirty minutes–to work on your stories. Do you commute to work via carpool, bus, or subway? Instead of reading the newspaper or listening to music on your iPod, plug away on your novel.

One of the keys to productivity is learning how to identify those pockets of free time during the day, and then using them to your benefit. It’s not as hard as you may think. In fact, when you really examine your daily schedule, you might be astounded at how much you could accomplish.

Can you do some fiction writing while your children are playing, eating, or napping? Could you scribble or dictate a few paragraphs while waiting in line somewhere? Zip out some prose as you wait for dinner to cook?

And yes, you might even have to give up some things. Do you really have to watch all of those TV shows every week? Do you have to spend hours on social networking web sites, accomplishing nothing in particular?

Locate the “fat” in your life, trim it out, and replace it with some fiction writing! Even if all you can manage is just one hour a day, that is something. Do a page an hour and you’ll have a solid draft in 9 – 10 months, which isn’t so bad at all.

You can do it. Really. Starting today.

Abstract: The paper introduces some testing items of non-metal materials in automotive, which include inner decorating materials fogging on the windscreen, gas permeability capability of fuel tank, gas permeability capability of seat materials, gas barrier capability of inner tube and safe airbag, and so on. Besides these, there are testing aims of these testing items, testing methods and testing standards etc.
keywords: automotive, non-metal materials, testing

1. Overview

As the performance and processing technology of non-metal materials are advancing by leads and bounds, non-metal materials are being applied to automotive with an unprecedented speed. The average consumption of non-metal materials per car has increased from  68.4 kg in 1981 to the present 150?180kilos . With the expanding application of non-metal materials in automobiles, requirements on corresponding properties of these materials are put forward. For example, the emitting of hazardous and noxious substances from auto’s interiors/trims materials is harmful to health. The condensation of volatile materials on winder screen   affects safety of driving. Gas permeability capability of fuel tank, gas permeability capability of seat materials, gas barrier capability of inner tube and safe airbag have much to do with the comfort of driver. Because of these problems, corresponding test methods, test standards, and test instruments are introduced in succession. The latter part is a brief introduction to relating test items.

2. Testing the Impact of Emitting Materials of Auto’s Interiors/trims Materials on Windscreen

Auto’s interiors/trims materials, such as engineering plastics, textiles, leathers and non-woven fabrics, as well as various adhesives used to mount the former mentioned materials, containing volatile substances that emit under heat and condense on window or windscreen, causing poor visibility and affecting safety of driving. At present, relevant tests have appeared in foreign countries based on standards of  DIN 75201?ISO 6452?SAE J1756 and etc. To improve product quality or to expand their oversea markets, some domestic auto manufactures and auto’s interiors/trims manufacturers also attach great importance to these tests.

Interiors/trims of automotive are tested in two methods: reflectometric method and gravimetric method. Reflectometric method measures the opaqueness variation of fogging layer on a glass plate surface to evaluate the fogging property of specimen. The gravimetric method measures the quantity of condensate that formed on aluminum foil surface to obtain the weight of fogging substances. In addition, the ‘fogging value’ or ‘weight of fogging-condensation’ obtained can also indicate the volatilization quantity of hazardous and noxious substances in specimen. With the fogging value of xenon vapor headlamp, users can evaluate the extent to which the fogging inside headlamp of automobile affects illumination.

At present, fogging test instruments on sale in domestic market are Germany Hake, Chinese Labthink and etc.

3. Permeability Test of Auto Plastic Fuel Case

Comparing with steel board fuel tank, Auto Plastic Fuel Case is featured by its safer property, corrosive resistance and longer lifespan. In addition to these advantages, plastic fuel tank is flexible in molding and lower in cost. At present, the utility rate of plastic fuel tank in domestic autos has been up to 86?.

Despite its many advantages comparing to steel board fuel tank, the most obvious weak point of plastic fuel tank is its poor barrier property, which results in the penetrating permeation of oil. To select ideal materials of plastic fuel tank, barrier property testing of the materials becomes necessary. The traditional test procedures are: fill certain petrol oil into a tank and then seal the tank. Weigh the tank and note its weight as M1. Place it for sufficient time (generally exceeding 100 days) and reweigh it, note the weight as M2. calculate ?M=M1-M2, the result of which is the volatilization of petrol oil. Such method needs a long period and requires high-precision weighing device, thus encounters great difficulty to complete test.

ASTM D3985 offers another test method. Cut a plastic slice from a tank and test its oxygen transmission rate. Comparing this result with that of various plastic sheets so as to scientifically and quickly decide the plastic that possesses better property.

In ASTM F1307, test method for integral package testing is provided, with which the sealability testing of the whole package is realized.

4. Gas and Water Vapor Permeability Testing of Seat Materials

During the Long and arduous journey, drivers often sit in the car for several or even several dozens of hours. For this reason, the requirements on gas and water vapor permeability of seat materials are stricter than that of auto’s other parts. Good cushion and seat pad should flexible with better gas and water vapor permeability so that drivers’ sweat can goes out smoothly.

GB/T10655-2003: Test procedures of gas permeability are as below: place the specimen of specified dimension inside test chamber and evacuate one side of specimen so that there is certain differential pressure formed on two sides of specimen. Then test the transmission quantity of test gas through specified area within certain time to obtain the transmission rate; or maintain the transmission rate through specimen and test the pressure difference on two sides of specimen to obtain resistance of airflow. This test method is in accordance to GB/T10655-2003.

ASTM E398: Test procedures for water vapor permeability testing are as below: place the specimen between dry and humid chambers at constant temperature. Then the sensor inside test chamber records the humidity variation inside and traces the time needed for the preset low limit value to reach upper limit value. With continuous testing and systematic analysis, water vapor permeation and water vapor permeability rate can be obtained. This method is in accordance with ASTM E398.

5. Gas Barrier Property Testing of Inner Tube and Safe Airbag

Materials of both Car inner tube and safe airbag are required to have good barrier property. The former guarantees that tube inflation will not be need during long journey while  the latter guarantees that  in the event of accidental collision moments,   quick muster of safe airbag can ensure a certain degree of pressure.

In traditional test methods, the finished tube or air bag is inflated to a certain pressure and the value of pressure meter is recorded. After a period of time, observe the pressure drop of manometer to obtain the value of barrier property. For this method, a long period (sometimes a year) is needed to obtain test result, thus is difficult to complete such testing. However, it now can be completed with Labthink VAC-V2 gas permeability tester. First, take samples from materials to be tested and then attach the specimen to VAC-VA. Maintain a certain pressure difference on two sides of specimen. Test gas transmits through specimen and the pressure changes with time so that users can calculate barrier property of materials. With this instrument, the test generally can finish in 12 hours, thus greatly improving test efficiency.

6. Test Other Non-metal Materials of Automobile

Non-metal materials used in automobiles are various in kinds. In addition, there is different requirements on the same material that is used in different parts of autos, that is to say, various test items are needed, such as the testing of tensile strength, tear strength, hardness, bending strength, color, the coefficient of friction and etc.

Moreover, during the operation of automobile, a great amount of various adhesives are needed, the property of which imposes vital influence on car quality. Therefore, these non-metal materials also require the testing of shearing, tensile and tearing strength.

7. Conclusion

Non-metal material is light in weight, which can lighten the weight of autos so as to achieve energy saving purpose. The better processing technology of such materials enables auto manufacturers to design components and models of autos with more flexibility. As more and more non-metal materials are being applied to automobiles, property testing of materials will provide more effective supports to the safe and optimized application of materials.

Article writing is an art. The writing style tends to vary depending on the type of article you are writing. However, irrespective of the topic or your target audience, all types of articles have some aspects in common. If you are planning to promote your work or business through articles, or write articles to gain Internet popularity or visibility; or popularize your product/service by writing for ezines, you need to know the basics about writing articles.

There are several article writing tips and all of them focus on the structure of an article because that is the most important aspect. The basic structure of an article consists of three parts:

- The introduction
- The body and
- The end

Introduction: Focus is on enticing your reader by letting them know, in brief, what the article is about.

Body: Should contain all the important information and content that your reader may be interested in.

End: Or conclusion can either be a summary of the entire article or just a punch line.

Apart from the structure, you need to also focus on clarity of subject, use of proper grammar and sentence formation, the flow of sentences throughout the article, and use of anecdotes, direct quotes, examples, facts and figures. These are very important as they will be the source of information for the reader and entice them to read on.

Finally, remember if the information in your article is not reader friendly or if the facts are incorrect, then you will never be able to hold the attention of your readers.

In recent years, science fiction movies have made a big comeback in Hollywood and I, for one, consider that a very good thing.

I like to be surprised when I go to the movies. I like to see things that I’ve never seen before and I like to be confronted by virtual realities that I did not even think possible. That’s why science fiction movies are my cup of tea.

They traditionally cover a wide range of subjects and themes, including several that are uniquely their own. Today’s trend in science fiction puts a premium on special effects, backed by today’s cutting-edge technology that can make even the most bizarre scenes seem realistic, such as alien life forms, spectacular battles in outer space, time travel or traveling to other worlds at the speed of light.

Often, science fiction films are purely speculative in nature and are peppered with recurring themes involving science and technology. Other prevalent themes in sci-fi movies are mysticism, magic, the occult and the supernatural, which are also key elements of fantasy or occult/religious movies. In fact, quite a number of films blur the line between these genre, such as Forbidden Planet, Chronicles of Riddick, and the Star Wars series.

It’s hard to define precisely what makes a science fiction film because the genre has no universally accepted definition. In fact, science fiction may vary from viewer to viewer in that what is sci-fi to me may be fantasy or horror to you.

If you’ve been a long-time fan of Hollywood, then you know that science fiction has come a long way. There was a time when special effects meant putting a toy spaceship at the end of a string and waving it in front of a camera or having someone dress up as an orangutan and terrorizing an entire city. Certainly, the special effects in science fiction movies have evolved from the downright laughable to today’s breath-taking and awe-inspiring treatments that seem truly realistic. Some of the great milestones in this regard are marked by films such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, the Star Wars films, Star Trek: The Motion Picture and The Matrix.

Of course, science fiction films just seem to be getting better by the year, as evidenced by such recent hits as “Lord of the Rings”, “I, Robot” and “Superman Returns.”

Surgical facelifts are generally corrections, enhancements or reductions to facial tissue to improve one’s looks.  Usually the surgery procedure entails pulling of the facial skin taut to the sides of the face and then snipping away the excess skin. Ouch!  The thought makes me cringe.

A non-surgical facelift is a facelift conducted with the same goal, but via non-surgical means.

For the purposes of this article, and as I am a proponent of holistic medicine, the terms “non-surgical facelift”, “non-invasive facelift” or “natural facelift” are the abbreviated terms I use to describe self-conducted acupressure massaging on various points on the face, neck, arms, and hands with the goal to attain the same results as a surgical facelift. There are generally 20 acupressure points to massage; at least one minute of massaging on each acupressure point. These points I will discuss in other articles.

Before you undergo a surgical facelift, here are a few comparisons to a non-surgical facelift conducted by your own fingertips that can have a better or similar outcome.  It’s quite possible to look 10 to 15 years younger in as little as 30 days, but WITHOUT SURGERY!

In many respects, an acupressure non-surgical facelift could be more advantageous in the long run for the following reasons:

Surgical facelifts, cosmetic surgery and/or plastic surgery costs a great deal of money i.e. between $5000 and $25000. A non-surgical facelift costs you nothing if you know where to massage the acupressure points.

Plastic surgery is only skin deep; the incisions from the surgeon’s scalpel leaves small cuts and scars. A natural facelift leaves no scars or cuts and treats the skin, energy nodal points, and the underlying tissue. It treats the causes of aging, which are cell degeneration and bad blood circulation.

Because plastic surgery involves the tightening of the facial skin, many people can have that pinched or surprised look after the surgery. A non-surgical facelift conducted with acupressure will regain your facial youth naturally without radically changing your looks with new color and texture being restored to the skin. Wrinkles will become smoothed or disappear; eye bags will diminish, and your skin will become firm again.

Plastic surgery is only temporary. More surgery is usually needed between 18 and 24 months of the first surgery when the skin starts sagging. A non-invasive facelift, conducted via acupressure, IS PERMANENT as long you maintain your natural facelift 2 to 3 times a week.

After cosmetic surgery, there is usually bruising, bandages, discoloration in the face and/or neck, and some degree of pain or discomfort. A natural facelift has no such complications, and you can expose your face without embarrassment, fear, or comment from others.

Although rare, there are always risks of infection, surgical complications, or even botched surgical facelifts that have permanent or serious repercussions for the patient. With a non-surgical facelift, there are no such risks. In fact, there are many other benefits such as better circulation, better digestion, better sleep patterns, and a more relaxed state.

There is always the hospital stay, the anesthetic, the drugs, the surgeon, over which you have little or no control with cosmetic surgery. A natural facelift is conducted usually wherever and whenever you want: in the comfort of your own home, at the bus stop, in front of the TV, etc.

So before you visit the surgeon or decide to go under the knife, maybe consider a “DIY” non-surgical natural facelift using acupressure with your own fingertips. It could mean a permanent, easy-to-maintain, painless, and cost-effective facelift. Looking younger doesn’t always have to be resolved surgically!

January 1985 marks the beginning of Americaâ??s love affair with Ender Wiggin. It was that month that Enderâ??s Game was published, becoming an instant blockbuster, and â??probably the most popular science fiction novel published in the last twenty yearsâ? (John Kessel). The child prodigy and ultimate savior of the earth, Ender Wiggin, had appeared seven years earlier in a short story published in the science fiction magazine Analog. Writer Orson Scott Card had spent much of his young life working in print, but had only set to writing science fiction when his meager salary as copy editor at a small press failed to pay a debt incurred from a failed business attempt. His magazine article won instant attention, and Orson Scott Card won the 1978 John C. Campbell Award for best new writer at the World Science Fiction Convention. But little Ender was destined for bigger things.

Orson Scott Card saw potential in his young protagonist and instantly set to work developing the short fiction into a longer work. Already he had two novels in mind, Enderâ??s Game and its sequel Speaker for the Dead, published the following year in 1986. Card made history by winning both the prestigious Nebula and Hugo Awards in both consecutive years. No other author has managed this feat to date (2006.) Since that time, Enderâ??s Game has been translated into sixteen languages, and spawned two series.

The first series includes Enderâ??s Game (1985), Speaker for the Dead (1986), Xenocide (1991), Children of the Mind (1996), and First Meetings (2002). The saga follows Ender as he grows into adulthood and deals with the moral and ethical issues presented in his childhood.

The second series starts with a parallel telling of the original Enderâ??s Game, but from the eyes of Bean. Titled Enderâ??s Shadow (1999), it is the first of the Shadow Series, followed by Shadow of the Hegemon (2001), Shadow Puppets (2002), and Shadow of the Giant (2005).

Enderâ??s Game has been called â??the science fiction novel for people who donâ??t think they like science fiction.â? Truly it appeals to a vast audience. It is on the list of top books for college-bound students, and has been adopted as required reading in numerous secondary schools and university classes. Card explains that the focus on the human story as it unravels, rather than the science fiction elements, is what gives the novel power among its readers. Essentially, Card says, readers must relate and care deeply about the characters. Beyond that, he admits that the use of computer networks and the â??mind gameâ? are features in the book that appeal to many readers.

Ender claimed the spotlight again in the late 1990s when rumor caught wind that a film was slated. Indeed, Warner Brothers announced in 2002 its plans to produce the film. Director Wolfgang Peterson, known for his most recent films Poseidon, Troy and The Perfect Storm, is joined by screenwriter David Benieff (Troy). The movie is expected to hit the theaters in 2008. After winning the top prizes offered in science fiction literature, one wonders what is still in store for Ender Wiggen.
