Suppose there’s a website that posts “fan fiction” stories based on a TV show from the 1960s or 1970s.
Would contributing a story, and having it put in such a site, be a violation of copyright laws? Would it be illegal? If so, in what way? And what laws would be broken?

It would be a derivative copy, so it would violate copyright law.
It is up to the copyright holder whether they try to enforce it or not. Some don’t care, some do.
Illegal in the sense that you are violating someone’s rights, a civil violation. They could sue for penalties and/or damages, in civil court.

well then, I would estimate. Take a years worth of income and divide by 12. That should give you a good estimate. You can always explain during your interview.
Most jobs require that you make at least minimum wage or they have to supplement your income. If that’s the case, put the minimum wage at the time you started.

Question by im3ngs: Besides details to protect anonymity, at what point does a “non-fiction” memoir become a fiction?
What do you think about the James Frey controversy (thesmokinggun.com) about his non-fiction book?
Oprah called in tonite on Larry King Live on CNN and defended Mr. Frey regarding his book about redemption from drug and alcohol abuse (a memoir). In the book, Mr. Frey embellished some portions, and as the controversial website reports, fabricated certain portions after they did independent research.
At what point does a “non-fiction” memoir become a fiction? Or a movie, such as Jack and Rose in Cameron’s Titanic move from fiction to history. The lines are beginning to blur…e.g. the DaVinci Code, which some think is true, when it really is a fiction novel.

Question by ??????????: What is meant by “literary or commercial fiction” ?
I keep seeing this when agents list their interests. For example: “Literary and commercial fiction, historical fiction, women’s fiction, thrillers, mysteryies, young adult…”
Would that mean any fiction? Would literary and commercial fiction by chance mean fantasy or sci fi?
Best answer:
Answer by Aeirlys
Literary and commercial fiction is the “everything else” genre of fiction. For other genres, it’s easy to define what they are, and generally their authors will tell you. Sci-fi/fantasy wouldn’t be fall into the literary and commercial genre because it has it’s own genre.
