shes doing this book: The True Meaning of Smekday
(2007)
A novel by
Adam Rex
It all starts with a school essay. When twelve-year-old Gratuity (“Tip”) Tucci is assigned to write five pages on “The True Meaning of Smekday” for the National Time Capsule contest, she’s not sure where to begin. When her mom started telling everyone about the messages aliens were sending through a mole on the back of her neck? Maybe on Christmas Eve, when huge, bizarre spaceships descended on the Earth and the aliens – called Boov – abducted her mother? Or when the Boov declared Earth a colony, renamed it “Smekland” (in honor of glorious Captain Smek), and forced all Americans to relocate to Florida via rocketpod? In any case, Gratuity’s story is much, much bigger than the assignment. It involves her unlikely friendship with a renegade Boov mechanic named J.Lo.; a futile journey south to find Gratuity’s mother at the Happy Mouse Kingdom; a cross-country road trip in a hovercar called Slushious; and an outrageous plan to save the Earth from yet another alien invasion. Fully illustrated with “photos,” drawings, newspaper clippings, and comics sequences, this is a hilarious, perceptive, genre-bending novel by a remarkable new talent.

Question: Best college-level writing book?
I had an excellent book in French that described how to write all sorts of documents: different types of essays, critiques, book reports.. resumes, thank you letters.. lots. I have been unable to find a similar book in English, that is college-level. I am looking for something that describes proper format.. style tips.. etc. In particular, something that may contain theses and annotated bibliographies. I have the Elements of Style, etc, but am looking for something more format-based. With “tips” rather than grammatical rules, etc.

The Little Brown Handbook!!!
I think they are on the 9th edition or something. It is the most valuable thing I own!!!
it says “The Little Brown Handbook is a basic resource that will answer almost any questions you have about writing. Here you can find out how to get ideas, punctuate quotations, search the internet, cite sources, or write a resume. The handbook can help you not only in writing courses but also in other courses and beyond school.”
It is extremely well organized and easy to use. You can find the information you need very quickly because of how it is set up. The Elements of Style is good….this is 10000000% better! Good luck
