Question: Which fiction “genre” is like pulling teeth to get you to read?
And, did you find a book in that genre that you ended up really enjoying?

Courtroom “thrillers”……….can’t get on with them.
I find them boring and formulaic, and I don’t enjoy the films either.
I’ve tried John Grisham, as everyone says he is the best in the field, but I don’t like his either.
Question: What type of genre is this?
I’m working on classifying some books for my classroom. Each book will be labeled with a label that reads “Fiction” or “Non-Fiction” and then underneath of that i am writing more specific titles of genre. For example, one of the books is about a girl who lives in colonial times. Therefore, the label says “Fiction” and underneath I have “Historical Fiction”.
The book I’m currently making a label for a book that is just a girl’s diary entries about moving to the city. It is fiction, but i’m looking for the specific category to put underneath.
thanks for your input.

Question: When a literary agent says: “I take literary fiction and genre fiction.” Does science fiction fit into those?
I’m trying to get my finished novel published, and to do this I am trying to find an agent. But every time I look at an agents expectations, it doesn’t say science fiction, it says literary/genre fiction or the like. Is this because all the agents I’m looking at don’t like science fiction, or does science fiction fit into these categories?

Well, science fiction is considered a genre, AFAIK, so I’d say the agent should consider it. But if you can find someone who specifically says they take science fiction, query him in preference to someone who just says “genre fiction”.
Question by lovehurts80: How is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone related in terms as the genre of “realistic fiction”?
Pertaining to the book or the movie is fine. Realistic fiction refers to stories that could happen to people and animal; that is, it is within the realm of possibility that such events could occur or could have occurred
