In English today we were assigned an essay project. It has to be about 1,500 words or more. The only guidelines given were that it needs to be MLA format, take place in a time period before 1751, and focus mainly on a certain culture and something that happens to them. I’m not asking for anyone to write my essay for me, I just need some ideas. A couple kids in my class are using action movies like Pirates of the Carribbean and 300 as bases for them. Any ideas? Please help:)!

I’m helping my 4th grader with a reading assignment.
We read a short story about Laura Engels Wilder and little house on the Prairie.
We have to answer a few questions about what we read, but one of the questions is “What makes this historical fiction?”.
To me, historical fiction is kind of an oxymoron. If it’s historical, then it’s non-fiction.
However, perhaps writing fiction during a specific time period is considered “historical fiction”.
Can someone clarify this for me?
Has to have some true historical ideas and of course is a fictional story though
