It can be on any time period in the history of the world! I’d rather something in more recent times if possible so that I could relate to my characters more. If you could please give some sort of story line that would be great!

Also, I’d rather not write about something sad and/or gorry. I know that that’s what life is all about, but I’d rather avoid such a story. Something more optimistic with a good conflict. Thanks!
I am preparing to write a short story on crime fiction for English. My idea is a kidnapping of the main character(rich female).There is only one kidnapper. Then the processes of threats,ransom, hideouts etc. Then in the end she is able to escape and holds the gun to the kidnappers head, wanting to shoot but unable to. when she is just about to the faint sound of police sirens are heard, she’s saved.
So the victim is the one who solves the crime, does it work?
Do you think this is a good crime story?
There doesn’t have to be a detective to solve the crime right?
