Question: please rate this segment of my “fantasy-science fiction” story?
It was going on 7:55 , Joshua, Emma , Jennifer, Brad , and Johnson heard the school bell ring. Their first class of the day was a bout to begin. Brad swigged the last of his diet Pepsi, and threw the can into the garbage. It was time for Algebra II , the five students were happy to be in the same class.
After school the fivesome were walking to Emma’s house and a pack of bullies appeared. One knocked the books out of Brads hands and and another knocked the books out of Joshua’s hand. They turned beet red, the three girls looked on horrified. Brad suddenly raised his hands to the sky , chanted a special magic word grouping and a lighning bolt came and struck the pavemnet right in front of the bullies. They turned and ran.

I did like the movie, but it is not as great as many people claim it to be.

I like how the movie jumps from one time to another it makes you think. Then the second time you watch it you can put it all together.

I bet you cannot even answer that. I bet you have no clue how much of “science” is taken on “faith” because its “observed” to be true. Which is no different than what theists do. The exception is that bigoted anti-theistic atheists, like yourself, have closed your minds off to any alternative possibility… no matter how true.

Short of the bitter choice not to believe, what purely logical reason do you have for completely discounting theistic possibility? If you were really rational and educated, you wouldnt arbitrarily and nonchalantly disregard any possibility before it was conclusively disproven.

There is a significant difference between the happenstance of not believing and choosing not to believe…. rather, choosing to disbelieve. Not believing and disbelieving are two separate statements. A lack of evidence to one theory doesnt prove its contrary.

Atheism is about a lack of faith… an entire lack of faith. The statement that you believe no one way because you have yet to be convinced. Believing against religion is not atheism… it is a specific belief to one end. Arbitrarily defaulting to whatever train of thought or belief structure you were taught or that you “feel” more comfortable with is a form of bias.

I wrote this but it doesn’t work (I have to show that is runs as well, so I made up a bill total):
x=float(raw_input(“Enter the bill total:23.50″))
x=a.split(“$ “)
print “You should pay”,”$ “+str(float(x[1])*.15), “for a 15% tip”
print “You should pay”,”$ “+str(float(x[1])*.2), “for a 20% tip”

In the interpreter window of IDLE, the program doesn’t run, not even in the python shell window.
i think my problem is with the user input -> raw_input(“Enter number: “)

Yes, it’s a problem with evaluating input. You shouldn’t have to do anything with a.split(“$ “). Just deal with the first x that you assigned there.

x = float(raw_input(“Enter the bill total:”))

There’s no need to do anything besides that.

Also, when putting together a string it’s often a good idea to use Python’s string formatting features. In my example below I use string formatting to avoid issues with the spaces inserted by print.

print “You should pay $ %f for a %%15 tip” % x *.15

With string formatting it’s often clearer what’s happening.

If I remember correctly, Jonas becomes more cynical and not so accepting as he learns the truth about the society he lives in.
