Question: Okay, now I need a name for this “science-fiction” book I’m attempting to write.?
Earlier, I asked a question about this book I’m attempting to write.
I don’t plan on getting it published, or anything. Just for fun.
So… I need a name for this novel. I’ll leave an “excerpt” (it feels so funny to use that word) below, just so you can get the feel of the thing. I also need tips on writing style, possibly some names for some characters I’d like to add (if you have any ideas for the characters, as well – let me know)
I guess I’ll give the story behind it, so you all aren’t like “FTW!?” or whatever…

Amelia-Jay is an average, self-involved, sarcastic teenage girl. She loves herself, her family, friends, and boyfriend more than anything in the world.
So when they are all at risk, she denies it. She constantly thinks: “This isn’t happening,” and “The world is not ending,” but, it is.
“Things” are coming to take over the earth and all that it contains. Amelia is now forced to care about anything but herself, and this doesn’t make her happy.
Everyone is going crazy, everyone except for Amelia. She is slightly consumed with thoughts of solitude. All she can think about is being alone if her family is taken from her. All she can think about is herself.
Everything finally hits her minutes before everyone is forced into emergency centers and basements.
The “Things” find her family right away. They go for the parents first and give the kids a chance to escape.
Amelia only has one thing on her mind: “Get Ellie out of here – NOW!” Ellie is Amelia’s younger, diabetic sister. Amelia grabs everything she can before they are spotted.
Now, Amelia, Ellie, and Perry the German Shepard, are on the run from the “things”. Not entirely sure where to head next.

I don’t really know what is going to happen next, so help me with that, as well.

*excerpt*
“Ameilia?” My mother shouted from the bottom of the stairs, hollering to me in my room. I put my guitar down safely in its stand.
“Yeah, mom?”
“May I talk to you for a minute?” She said, she was standing by door now, leaning against the door jamb, holding it with her hands and sticking her head inside.
“I guess I can’t say no now, so come on in,” I said sarcastically, smiling up at her. She looked at me with eyes that could pierce through any soul. I guess, under the circumstances we were in, she had the right to look at anyone like that. I could only ask her one thing: “What’s wrong, mom?”
“Honey, I need you to promise me something. It’s very important.” The worry in her eyes was burning through me. As she moved closer I could feel the heat. Intense.
“Yeah, mom. Anything,” I said, looking at her with curious eyes. I heard her swallow.
“Will you promise me – no matter what – that you’ll look after your sister, even after I’m gone?” I looked at her, shocked. How could she think that she was going somewhere? And how could she think that I’d look after the brat?
“Mom, you’re not going anywhere, alright?” I tried to convince her.
“Ameilia, please, just promise me; if they come for us, your father and I will distract them. You get Ellie out of here. Grab as much food and medicine as you can. We are going to keep a cooler in the refrigerator for Ellie’s insulin. Take it, some food, and her and run as fast as you can out of this place. If they come in through -”
“Mom! You are getting ahead of yourself. No one is going to come for us. I promise. We will be as safe as the President of the United States of America while the earth falls out of orbit.” I said, doing a bad imitation of my fathers’ voice. He says that a lot. She laughed and walked out of the room before I could see her tears. I went back to playing guitar.

I respect any opinions and personal preferences. Any advice is good for me :)

Thanks.

Question: For teenagers: How do you feel about the “science-fiction” label?
This blog post is more than a year old, but I just found it. I’m wondering how teenagers feel about this. Are you less likely to read a book if it’s labeled “science-fiction”?

Aliens vs. Predator,â? the epic movie crossover battle nobody wanted to see in the first place, is back for a second time. This movie is directed by Colin and Greg Strause, who determined to make a thrilling movie. If you are looking for an upside to the current writersâ?? strike, take relief in the fact that it could only delay the expected â??Alien vs. Predator 3.â?

â??Aliens vs. Predator: Requiemâ? starts as a Predatorâ??s spaceship collapses into a quaint Colorado town due to an attack by stowaway Alien face-huggers. The Aliens infect the Predator resulting in a grotesque Alien/Predator hybrid monster that terrifies the simple country folk of the small mountain town. On top of Aliens running wild throughout the town, another Predator has raveled from â??Predator-villeâ? to take revenge of the death of his comrade. Who knew the Predators lived by a stringent code of honor. This proves that the Predator character has more depth than any of the horribly acted human characters.

For a film with the word â??versusâ? in the title, there is a probability of intense action that would start in the very first scene and never let up. The first half of the movie is almost wasted in establishing clichéd characters whose names were so unique that you wonâ??t even remember even after the end of the movie. The boring subplots get interesting only in the way of the inter-alien rampage everyone paid to see. The movie has little to invoke sympathy for the characters as the audience still cheers as each of them dies by the blade of some techno-spear wielded by the Predator or by the mouthed tongue of the Aliens.

â??Aliens vs. Predator: Requiemâ? can be classified as a boring horror movie with science fiction undertones which merely appeal fans of gore. The fans were disappointed as the special effects are lackluster. The Aliens donâ??t look any more convincing than they did in the 80s with lumbering movements resembling a marionette.

According to Wikipedia, science-fiction is a broad genre of fiction that often involves speculations based on current or future science or technology. There are many movies featuring events, gadgets, creatures and people that are very unlikely to encounter, meet or happen in real life. But as time passes by and science and technology keep on advancing and improving, many elements which are considered belonging to science-fiction movie are now coming to life.

The most popular science-fiction elements are extraterrestrials. In this category we have E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Close Encounter and Independence Day. It’s still unclear if there is life on other planets despite many claims of UFO sightings, alien encounters, abductions and let’s not forget The Roswell Incident. NASA detected what seems like methane on Mars’ atmosphere which means possible life on the planet. – I hope that they look like us and not small, green with big headed people, coz that would bring back nightmares which will turn out to be real this time. What I fear most if there is life on Mars that for some stupid earthling reason we’ll decide to attack them and turn this into Earth Attack. I hope that the Mars mission won’t turn into Capricorn One.

One of the most beautiful magical science-fiction elements is space traveling. There is a 1902 black and white silent French movie titled Le Voyage Dans La Lune (A trip To The Moon). Boy, that movie must have seemed so silly and unbelievable back then – The trip part, not all the freaky stuff that happened up there – until July 20th 1969 when man first walked on the moon. Now, not anyone can go to space unless you’re an astronaut –Duh! – a star, wealthy or a VIP. There some companies such as Virgin Galactic, one of Richard Branson s’ Virgin Group corporations, which will be offering spaceflight to passengers. But it doesn’t come cheap, the first 500 flights are between $200,000 and $100,000 – Seems like only some of the people mentioned above will be able to afford them – and the next ones, $20,000 – Start saving.

Another science-fiction element is disaster. The type where the earth or mankind is about to disappear – I wonder which animal would miss us the most – and someone has to set up to save humanity; or some kind of disease and survival of the fittest comes back in style. We have Armageddon, I Am Legend and The Day After Tomorrow. The real life natural event which easily comes to mind is global warming. Temperatures are rising, ice in the artics is melting, pollution is on the increase and animals are going instinct. If Mars is unoccupied and that it is possible that earthling can live on it, I hope that we will take better care of it.

Huge scary monsters destroying everything and terrifying everyone are also science-fiction elements. The most popular ones are King Kong and GodZilla. In a decade or two, monsters 16 feet tall and weighting 6 to 12 tones may be walking amongst us. I’m talking about Manfred’s brothers and sisters. Yes, mammoth. Scientists have found wolly mapped with mammoth DNA which they intend to use to clone mammoths; like in Jurassic Park. Mammoth went extinct because of food scarcity and rise in temperature. With Global warming and the increase of food price, I wonder how and where they will live. Good thing that they were herbivore.

The technology in science-fiction movies always makes us dream and wonder if it will one day come to life. The dreamiest are flying cars like in The Jetsons and The Fifth Element. I’m going to be honest and say that it is one invention I though won’t be coming around any time soon, but turns out that I was wrong thanks to Parajet Skycar. It drives like a car and flies like a plane. Don’t get carried away yet. The flying car hasn’t been tested yet but there are plans of it flying from London to Timbuktu by the end of January.

Last but not least, we have robots and artificial intelligence. There are many movies such as I, Robot and Terminator which feature metals held together with bolts and nuts looking and behaving like human beings. We also happen to have some in real life like the robot suit which can assist people by lifting heavy loads and assist people with disabilities climb stairs and the kitchen assistant robot which can take care of house chores and robotics pets (mostly dogs).

So far, there isn’t any time travel machine – that I have heard of – like in Back To The Future and that’s probably for the best because whichever individual or country manages to create one will most probably use it to change history in their advantage or maybe even make it worse.

A few days ago, a US Airways plane which was bird stroked, an engine caught fire and crash-landed into the Hudson River. All the passengers and crew survived. Everyone believes that it is thanks to the pilot and hero Robert Bea who handled the situation amazingly. Now if this was in a movie, it would have been seen as a great plot, exaggerated and not likely to happen. Now that it has, if the crash appears in a movie, people will say “Great just like the landing on the Hudson River.” But the movie won’t leave such a big mark in viewers mind because it has already happened.

I wonder if gathering the courage to throw shoes at a world leader should be consider as a science-fiction event come true.
